Detailed Solution

The volume of gas is the amount of space that a gas occupies. It is usually measured in liters (L) or cubic meters (m3).

Unlike solids and liquids, gases do not have a fixed shape or volume. They expand to fill the container. The volume of a gas depends on temperature and pressure.

Gas Laws Related to Volume

  • Boyle’s Law: At constant temperature, pressure and volume are inversely related (P × V = constant).
  • Charles’s Law: At constant pressure, volume is directly proportional to temperature.
  • Avogadro’s Law: Equal volumes of gases contain equal number of molecules at the same temperature and pressure.
