Detailed Solution

The process by which amoeba takes in its food is called endocytosis.

Endocytosis is a process in which the cell membrane of the organism invaginates, or folds inward, to form a pocket or vesicle that surrounds a substance outside the cell.

Amoeba uses this process to engulf solid food particles like bacteria, algae, and other microscopic organisms.

When amoeba encounters food particles, it extends their pseudopodia around the food particle and encloses it in a small pocket of the cell membrane, forming a structure called a food vacuole. This process is called phagocytosis, which is a type of endocytosis.
