Concept: The retina is a thin layer of tissues that lines the interior of the eye.
It is close to the optic nerve.
The retina's function is to take the light that has been focused by the lens, transform it into neural impulses, and transfer these signals to the brain for visual recognition.
Light rays converging at the cornea and entering and exiting the lens produce a picture on the retina.
Rays traced from the top and bottom of the object form an inverted actual picture on the retina.
Concave mirrors and converging lenses can provide a true picture when rays converge.
If the item is moved further from the mirror/lens than the focal point, the true picture is inverted.
