Detailed Solution

Solutions, Suspensions, and Colloids

  • When all the components of a homogeneous mixture are in the same phase, it is called a solution. A solution is made up of two parts: a solute (the substance dissolved) and a solvent (the medium in which solute dissolves).
  • A suspension, on the other hand, is a heterogeneous mixture in which solute particles do not dissolve and remain floating or settled in the medium.
  • A colloid lies between a solution and a suspension. In a colloid, the particles are spread uniformly throughout, giving it an almost homogeneous appearance. However, it is actually a heterogeneous mixture.

Example: Milk is a colloid. Its particles are too small to be seen with the naked eye, yet they remain uniformly distributed in the liquid.

Correct Option: B (Milk is a colloid)
