Detailed Solution

The decrease in temperature with the increasing altitude is the major cause of change in vegetation of the mountainous areas. With increasing altitude, the temperature keeps on decreasing. This leads to changes in the type of vegetation found in mountainous areas. At the foothills of mountains, we normally find tropical deciduous vegetation like teak, mahogany, etc. At the height of 1000-2000 m, we find the wet temperate type of vegetation, for example, chestnut, walnut, etc. At the height of 1500-3500 m, temperate forests are predominant. Examples of these can be Pine, Deodar, etc. At the height of 3500 or above, alpine forests predominate, e.g., silver fir, oak, etc.
