Detailed Solution

Ashoka decided to give up the war after the battle of Kalinga because he was horrified by the violence and bloodshed that happened in the war. The ancient name for Orissa's coastline region was Kalinga. Ashoka waged a battle to subjugate Kalinga. The final result of the war was in favour of Ashoka. But he chose not to participate in any further battles since he was shocked by the killing and brutality. He is the first king in history to renounce conquest after victory in a battle.
