What Regiment started the 1857 Revolt?

While Mangal Pandey and the 34th Bengal Native Infantry are famous for the initial spark of rebellion in March 1857, the large-scale revolt is credited to the 3rd Bengal Light Cavalry stationed in Meerut. On May 10, 1857, sepoys from this regiment refused to use the controversial greased cartridges, mutinied against their British officers, and marched to Delhi, which marked the beginning of the widespread rebellion.
