Role of agarose gel  in gel Electrophoresis:

It is a natural polymer of sea weed. It forms a cross-linked matrix. The pore size depends on the % of the gel. The cross-linked matrix acts as a sieve through which  the DNA fragments  electrophores, thus  enabling the resolution of fragments based on their size.
