Detailed Solution

The government kept promoting Hindi as an official language to promote it. When the protests by southern states and other states that were not comfortable with the Hindi language were increasing, then the government of India did not disband the use of Hindi, nor was it imposed on other states. But instead, the government of India started to continue using it as an official language. Because of this, the protests were calmed, and no new protests were started. The government of India handled this sensitive issue very carefully, unlike Sri Lanka. Hindi was continued as an official language because English is a language of the elite. If Hindi had not been used, then the masses would not have benefitted and felt alienated in their own country because of the sole use of English.
