Detailed Solution

The Indian Constitution provides for a three-fold distribution of powers.
List-I (the Union List), List-II (the State List), and List-III (the Concurrent List) of the 7th Schedule are the three lists of legislative subjects that the Constitution specifies should be distributed between the Union and the States. In the Union List, the subjects over which the centre has the authority to make laws are mentioned. In the State list, subjects over which the states have the power to legislate are mentioned. The third list is the Concurrent list that constitutes subjects over which both Centre and State can make laws. But in case of conflicts between their laws, the laws of the Union will prevail.
