What type of mixture is a colloid?

The size of the particles of a colloid is too small to be individually seen by the naked eye. 

Colloidal particles are big enough to scatter a beam of light passing through them and make their path visible. 

So even if the particles are not seen, they are not uniformly spread throughout the mixture and so they are heterogeneous in nature.
