Detailed Solution

The ‘blandongdiensten’ system was a system which exempted villagers from rent in exchange of free labour and supply of buffaloes for transporting timber. The Dutch passed numerous regulations pertaining to forests. By using the blandongdiensten system, the Dutch invaders in Java were able to set up a rent system on the forest-covered fields and force the cultivators to pay the rent. Later, the Dutch abandoned this rent as they believed that the communities did not need to pay for farming, as long as they offered free labour and animals to the Dutch for tasks like cutting down trees and transporting wood, among other things. Some settlements were exempted by the Dutch because they required employees for transportation and tree cutting. However, people were expected to offer free labour and buffaloes for hauling and cutting wood.
