The legalisation of divorce was done before the Jacobin regime. However, removing the categories of active and passive citizens and giving voting rights to all men irrespective of their wealth was an essential reform by the Jacobin regime. But the honours of the Jacobin regime's most revolutionary social reform went to the abolition of slavery in the French colonies. Thus all French subjects, excluding women, were granted the rights of freedom, equality, security and resistance to oppression. But ten years later, with Napoleon's emergence as France's monarch, slavery was reintroduced.
