What Was the Kiwifruit Called in China Originally?

Before it was known as kiwifruit, the fruit had several names in its native China. The most common name was mí hóu táo (猕猴桃), which translates to "macaque fruit" or "monkey peach."

This name was reportedly given because monkeys in the region were known to be very fond of eating the wild fruit. It was also sometimes referred to as yáng táo (羊桃), or "sunny peach."
