Detailed Solution

Sustainable development as resource conservation was the main contribution of the Brundtland Commission Report, 1987. In 1968, the Club of Rome began to promote resource conservation on a global scale in a more organised manner. Schumacher then again expressed Gandhian philosophy in his book Small was Beautiful in 1974. The Brundtland Commission Report from 1987 contributed to resource preservation worldwide. This paper popularised the idea of "Sustainable Development" and promoted it as a way to save resources; it was later included in the book Our Common Future. A further substantial contribution was made at the 1992 Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit.
