The main reason behind launching the Non-Cooperation Movement was in the Nagpur session, Gandhiji succeeded in convincing the congress leaders to support the Khilafat issue. During the first World War, Turkey was defeated, and the terms of the Treaty of Sevres were a great insult to Muslims. This agitated the Muslims in India and announced the Khilafat movement. Its founding members were the Ali brothers – Shaukat Ali and Muhammed Ali. Khilafat Movement’s main goal was to express their protest against the unjust behaviour of the British in Turkey and the Ottoman Empire. It was a collective movement by Khilafat leaders and the Indian National Congress. Mahatma Gandhi, who always wished to bring Hindus and Muslims together, took this opportunity and supported the Khilafat Movement and suggested using a non-violent non-cooperation movement against the British Government.
