Lok Dal was the name of Chaudhary Devi Lal's party. From 1982 to the late 1980s, the state of Haryana was governed by a Congress-led administration. Former opposition leader Chaudhary Devi Lal founded the "Lok Dal" party and headed the "Nyaya Yudh" movement to create a front against Congress in the elections in the 1980s. His party joined up with other opposition parties. During the election campaign, Chaudhary Devi Lal promised farmers and small business owners that his government would forgive their loans if his party won. Because they were already dissatisfied with the current government, the people were drawn to him by his promise. People chose to support Lok Dal and its supporters as a result.
