Detailed Solution

The objective of the Cabinet Mission was to ascertain strategies for an orderly transfer of power in India.
The British government established a three-person committee in 1946 to decide on the transfer of authority in India. The Cabinet Mission recommended that India stay united while granting some autonomy to the provinces in its east and north, where the majority religion was Muslim. The Muslim League and Congress rejected the Cabinet Mission's recommendations. But in late 1946, Indian leaders established an interim government with the Muslim League and Congress assistance. Thus, the cabinet mission failed.
