What was the purpose of building Qutub Minar?

The Qutub Minar, located in Delhi, was started by Qutb-ud-din Aibak in 1199 CE and later completed by his successor Iltutmish. It is one of the tallest stone towers in India and a UNESCO World Heritage Site today.

The tower was built after the defeat of the Rajput rulers, especially Prithviraj Chauhan, by Qutb-ud-din Aibak.

The Qutub Minar was constructed next to the Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque, the first mosque built in Delhi.

It functioned as a minaret, from which the muezzin (the person who calls for prayer) could give the adhan (call to prayer).
