Detailed Solution

Rani Lakshmibai's demand that the British rejected was the recognition of her adopted son as their heir.
On November 19, 1828, in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, Rani Lakshmibai was born. Lakshmibai's parents renamed her from her original name of Manikarnika Tambe to Manu. Moropant Tambe, her father, and Bhagirathi Sapre, her mother, were Maharashtrians. She lost her mother when she was four years old and grew up more independently than most kids her age. Respectfully acknowledged for her services, Lakshmibai rose to prominence in the fight for independence from the British. Rani married Jhansi Maharaja Gangadhar Rao in 1842, and as a result, she took the name Lakshmibai. Damodar Rao, a baby boy, born to her in 1851, passed away at four. Then, the couple adopted Anand Rao, the cousin of their son Gangadhar, and gave him the new name Damodar Rao. The death of the Maharaja of Jhansi in 1853 provided the British Governor General Lord Dalhousie with the chance to put into practice the 'Doctrine of Lapse,' which said that if any Indian ruler passed away without a male child to function as the legal heir, the entire kingdom would lapse and be seized by the British empire. Jhansi requested that the British corporation recognize his adoptive son as the rightful heir in this case, but the company refused. This was Lakshmibai's demand, and the British rejected it.
