Detailed Solution

The Mandal Commission recommended the reservation of 27% of government jobs for the socially and economically backward classes. The Mandal Commission is officially called the Second Backward Classes Commission, which was appointed by the Government of India in the year of 1979. B.P. Mandal headed the Commission. Hence, the name Mandal Commission. It was asked to establish the criteria for identifying India's socially and educationally underprivileged sections and to offer suggestions for how they can be advanced. The Commission presented its report in 1980 and made many recommendations. One of the most transformative of these was that 27 percent of all government jobs be reserved for the socially and educationally backward classes. The report and suggestions were discussed within the Parliament and eventually passed and adopted.
