Rowlatt Act allowed the government to detain political prisoners without trial for two years.
Rowlatt Act was a repressive act that was passed hurriedly in the year 1919. According to this act, the government was granted enormous powers to repress political activities against British Rule. It was directed against the development of the freedom movement. The Imperial Legislative council passed it without discussion with Indian members. The Indian members of the council opposed it.
