Detailed Solution

The peasants and artisans such as weavers and potters were referred to as the Shudras. In Indian society, People were classified based on their occupation in different castes. The different castes that existed during the time were Brahmans, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras. They were put in the lowest position in the caste hierarchy that existed in Indian society. Shudras include labourers who worked to keep the cities and villages clean. Some jobs which were done by the Shudras are considered polluting by the upper caste. These people were considered untouchables by the upper classes as a result they were not allowed to enter temples and draw water from the well which was used by the upper classes. And also they were not allowed to bathe in ponds where upper castes bathed. These people were considered inferior human beings.
