Detailed Solution

Ring wells were used for various reasons. Ancient people had ring wells. They had rows of pots or ceramic rings arranged one on top of the other. They were used as toilets and in some cases also drains and garbage dumps. The drainage system of ancient times was made of mud bricks or ceramic. The only drawback of using these while making the drainage system was that they broke after constant use. These ring wells were usually found in individual houses. They were so-called because of the terracotta rings. These rings were first used in the Mauryan Empire in the Gangetic plains.
