Detailed Solution

Wood’s Despatch was an educational policy.
The policy about imparting education to Indians evolved in Britain. In 1854, an educational despatch was sent to the Governor-General of India. It was known as Wood’s Despatch, named after Charles Wood, President of the Board of Control of the Company. It proposed the importance of European education. According to him, European education would create more loyal Indians who would understand the concerns of the Company. In addition, it would help to develop civil servants for the Company. Under Wood’s Despatch, three central universities were set up in Calcutta, Madras, and Bombay in 1857.
