The praise of the king was mostly written in Chola inscriptions. Brahmins with knowledge wrote the inscriptions. The Brahmins were not welcome in the empire's societies. The agricultural and residential areas were far from where the Brahmins lived. However, the brahmins produced a flattering prashasti of the king, which was untrue, even though they occasionally were not fully aware of the rulers' policies for their subjects. The corruption and exploitation of the rural locals were not covered in their writing. Because of the poor governance in all the locations, they did not write about the poverty that the people experienced.
