Detailed Solution

America’s original inhabitants were American Indians.
The name Indian came into use because Christopher Columbus repeatedly expressed the erroneous notion that he had reached the coast of South Asia. Convinced that he was right, Columbus encouraged the use of the name Indios (originally, "Indus man") to refer to the people of the so-called New World. Natives of the United States, including Hawaii and other parts of the country, and sometimes restricted to the country, ancestors of the American Indians were nomadic nomads of northeastern Asia, migrating to Bering. The Strait of Magellan land bridge entered North America about the last snowfall (11,500–30,000 years ago).
