Detailed Solution

In the 19th century, the economic obstacles that the liberal-nationalists wanted to overcome were the restricted movement of goods and capital and the existence of countless small principalities and different currencies, weights and measures. Europe was a strong supporter of liberalism during the early nineteenth century. These restrictions on economic interaction hampered the development of the emerging commercial classes. Prussia and the majority of the German states established the Zollverein customs union in 1834 to address this issue. The steps used to tackle this problem were as follows:
  • Tariff restrictions were removed.
  • There are now just two currencies in use.
  • A railroad system was established to promote economic interests.
