The factors that led to Lok Dal winning the elections in Haryana in 1987 were that the people were not happy with the current government, and Devi Lal promised that the loans of the farmers and small businesses would be waived off.
The Congress has ruled the state of Haryana since 1982. Chaudhary Devi Lal led a movement called Nyaya Yudh and formed a political party. Devi Lal was a member of the opposition party. In the election campaign, Devi Lal had said that if his party had won the elections, they would waive off the loans of small businesses and farmers. In 1987, Lok Dal won the most seats (they had defeated Congress) and formed the government. A few reasons for Lok Dal's victory are as follows, the people of Haryana were not happy with the Congress government, and the promise made by Devi Lal attracted them. Hence, it recognises that for free and fair elections, the voters must have various options to choose the best among all.
