Sabha was an assembly of prominent Brahmin landlords. The Sabha, or village assembly, served several purposes. It served primarily as a forum for the Brahman landlords, whose decisions were sometimes memorialised in inscriptions found on temple walls. Under the Sabha, several committees dealt with irrigation and related infrastructure. A young kid was asked to take one by one for each committee from an earthenware pot where small palm leaf tickets with the names of those eligible to join these committees were placed. Additionally, Sabha was in charge of the health of the temples and gardens in its area.
