Detailed Solution

The reasons for the tribal uprising in Assam were - the British forced the Khasis to work as labourers against their will, the land tax was abnormally high for the farmers, and the colonial government confiscated the lands of the tribes. The Khasis, a tribe that lived in the hilly region in the northwest along the boundary with Assam, rose in rebellion against the British in 1829. In Assam, the government required farmers to pay unusually high land taxes. The British allegedly increased the levy by 50–70% in the Assamese areas of Kamrup and Darrang. Farmers who couldn't afford to pay taxes had their lands taken away by the British government. Farmers in 1893 and 1894 protested the British government on several occasions because of this.
