The two demands of Sri Lankan Tamil were equality of opportunity and recognition of Tamil as an official language.
In Sri Lanka, there are primarily two distinct communities of people. Sinhalese and Tamil people. Because these cultures have completely different languages, religions, and traditions, this split is exceedingly deep. The majority community was the Sinhalese, and the Tamil people suffered horrendous discrimination. The conflict between them as well as the discrimination had begun during Sri Lanka's colonial control by the British. Later, the conflict turned violent, and it took a long time and a challenging process to resolve. They desired the addition of Tamil as an official language. Due to the fact that only Sinhalese was acknowledged as the official language, this was crucial for fair representation. They desired greater regional autonomy in areas with a higher Tamil population. This was done to make sure they could create their laws and rules.
