Detailed Solution

The villages that were allowed to remain in reserved forests on conditions were known as forest villages.
The people of Bastar were highly concerned when the colonial authorities sought to reserve two-thirds of the forest in 1905 and to stop shifting farming, hunting, and gathering of forest produce. However, some towns were permitted to continue to exist in the protected forests to appease them, provided they gave free labour to the forest service for transporting and cutting trees and preventing forest fires. These were subsequently referred to as "forest villages." However, a majority of the forest dwellers were not so lucky. Most of them were uprooted without warning or compensation.
