Take ABCD as a parallelogram, where AB=15cm, AD=8cm and AE=4cm.
Also, AB=CD and AD=BC because opposite sides of a parallelogram are equal.

To find the distance between the shorter sides that is the length of CF, we will use the formula of area of a parallelogram which is equal to

Now, using AE=4cm and DC=15cm
Area of parallelogram=

b × h

= 15 c m × 4 c m

= 60 c m

In the same parallelogram ABCD
Area of parallelogram=

A D × C F

60 c m = 8 c m × C F

C F = 60 c m 8 c m

C F = 7.5 c m

Therefore, the distance between the shorter sides is 7.5cm.
