We know that,

mean = sum of all observations number of observations

Calculating the new mean,
The mean is provided as 40.
Note that the same number is added to 10 numbers.
Hence, the same number would be added to the mean as well.
The new mean,
40 + 5 = 45
Thus, the new mean becomes 45.
