A displacement reaction is a chemical reaction in which one element is replaced by another element in a chemical reaction as per the reactivity series.
The reactivity series is a chart in which metals are arranged in order of their reactivity. The metals which are found at the bottom of the reactivity series are the least reactive.
Now, a more reactive metal displaces the less reactive metal from its salt solution and this reaction is known as the displacement reaction.
Now, when Zinc is added to a solution of Iron (II) sulphate, the reaction takes place as-
Zn+FeSO4ZnSO4+Fe
Therefore, Zn displaces Fe from its solution.
When zinc is added to FeSO4 solution, the colour changes from green to colourless.
 FeSO4is green in colour and ZnSO4 solution is formed and greyish black iron metal is deposited.
