Detailed Solution

When a metal carbonate is added to a solution of hydrogen chloride, carbon dioxide gas is produced, which gets dissolved in the solution that eventually forms carbonic acid. Carbonic acid then reacts with the excess hydrogen chloride that is present in the solution itself to form more carbon dioxide gas and water,  leading to the formation of an acidic solution.  The solution then turns red colour due to the presence of the acid.
