Detailed Solution

When a ray of light travels obliquely from a denser to a rarer medium, it bends away from the normal.
When a ray of light passes from one medium to another, it deviates from its original path. This is the 'refraction of light'.
Refraction is the deviation of light rays after entering a medium where their speed is different. Due to the refraction of light, when a beam of light passes from a rarer medium to a denser medium, it bends towards the normal to the boundary between the two media. And when a beam of light passes from a denser medium to a rarer medium, it bends away from the normal to the boundary between the two media.
Using Snell’s law  ninr=SinθrSinθi
Where ni= incident index
             nr=refracted index
       Sinθr=refracted angle
       Sinθi=incident angle
If ni>nr. Light bends away from the normal when it passes from denser to rarer medium.
If ni<nr. Light bends towards the normal when it passes from rarer to denser medium.
