Detailed Solution

When a solid body is completely immersed in liquid, it displaces 50 cm³of liquid. If the relative density of the liquid is 0.8, the weight loss of the solid in the liquid is 0.4 N.
We know that
Volume of the liquid displaced = Volume of the solid
 Volume of liquid displaced = 50 cm3
 Volume of liquid displaced =50 × 10-6 m3
Volume of liquid displaced =0.5×10-4 m3
Relative density of liquid = 0.8
Density of the liquid  = Relative density × density of water
 Density of the liquid = 0.8 ×1000 kg/m3
 Density of liquid= 800 kg/m3
Loss in the weight of solid in liquid = Volume of the liquid displaced × density ×g
        = 0.5 × 10-4×800 kg/m3 ×10 m/s2
        = 0.4 N
Thus, the loss of weight of solid in a liquid is 0.4 N.
