Akbar became the emperor at the age of 13 years and succeeded to the throne after the death of his father Humayun. Humayun died due to an accident. At first, the administration was under the regent Bairam Khan and other domestic staff. Later he became independent of it. He organised a military campaign against Suris, other Afghans, Malwa, and Gondwana. In 1568, he seized the Sisodiya capital of Chittor. It was under him the Mughal empire expanded its reign of control and became a prominent one in North and Central India. It maintained religious tolerance. He built an efficient administration system and revenue system with the help of Todar Mal.
