Detailed Solution

When Alivardi Khan died in 1756, Siraj-ud-daulah became the Nawab of Bengal. Following Aurangzeb's demise, the Bengal nawabs reaffirmed their independence and autonomy, as did other regional rulers of the period. Alivardi Khan and Siraj-ud-daulah were powerful rulers. They refused to provide concessions to the Company, demanded hefty tributes for the Company's right to trade, denied it the right to mint coins, and prevented it from expanding its defences. Moreover, they accused the Company of deception, claiming that it robbed the Bengal government of vast sums of money and eroded the nawab's authority.
