Detailed Solution

When the force is applied at the centre of mass of a system, the applied force cannot produce any moment about the centre of mass. Therefore angular acceleration of the system is zero and the body will not rotate. But the applied force will produce linear acceleration of centre of mass and hence the system undergoes translatory motion only.
