The Jallianwala Bagh Massacre was committed on April 13, 1919, in Amritsar. The arrest of Dr Saifuddin Kitchlu and Dr Satyapal under the Rowlatt Act (this act gave unlimited powers to the British government to arrest and imprison suspects without trial) was a serious concern in Punjab. To sort this a public meeting was held on April 13, 1919, in Jallianwala bagh/ park. In this meeting, thousands of people including women and children gather. There was indiscriminate firing started by a British soldier on orders of General Dyer in which more than 1600 people were killed. This massacre inspired people to fight for freedom.
