In 1984, under Kanshi Ram's leadership the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) was formed.
In India, the Bahujan Samaj Party is a national political party. It was founded in 1984. The BSP claims that it represents those from the Hindu Social System's weakest segments, including those who are officially designated as Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes, as well as other religious and social minorities. Kanshi Ram's efforts to organise Dalits and other minorities led to his involvement in politics, during which he spent much time circling Uttar Pradesh and travelling across the country in search of support for his cause. He founded the party in 1984 and served as its leader until Kumari Mayawati took over in 2003. On the 14th of April, 1984, the Bahujan Samaj Party was founded on the birth anniversary of Dr B.R. Ambedkar.
