The Muslim League was founded in 1906 at Dacca.
At Dacca in 1906, a group of Muslim landlords and nawabs formed the All India Muslim League. The league supported the partition of Bengal. It desired separate electorates for Muslims, a demand conceded by the government in 1909. Some council seats were now set aside for Muslims to be elected by Muslim voters. This motivated politicians to gain popularity by doling out favours to religious groups. Thus, Muslim League emerged as a strong group that worked in the interest of the Muslim community.
