Detailed Solution

Concept- When calcium reacts with water it forms calcium hydroxide and  hydrogen gas. Calcium metal reacts with water less aggressively than other metals. The hydrogen gas bubbles created by this process adhere to the surface of calcium to form calcium hydroxide, a hazy, white precipitate. It floats on the water's surface as a result. This reaction generates far less heat as a result of which the hydrogen gas that results does not ignite.
