Detailed Solution

Concept: A hypotonic solution has less solute content and more water. When RBC and onion cells are kept in hypotonic solute, endosmosis occurs.
Water starts moving from hypotonic solution to RBC and onion cells, as they have more amount of solute. So, both cells will swell. An onion cell is a plant cell, so doesn’t burst while RBC is an animal cell and lacks a cell wall. Thus, they burst easily. The erythrocytes carry the oxygen throughout the body. The shelf life of every RBC lives is about 4 months. The white blood cells are part of the immune system of the body. These help to fight infections and diseases.
Hence, option 3 is the correct answer.
