Gandhiji started a nationwide satyagraha on April 6, 1919, to disrupt British activities and force them to listen to the people's grievances. The Rowlatt Act was imposed in March 1919, in which police could arrest any person based on suspension, and the detained person would not get the chance to prove his part without a trial in court. The British authorities imprison the suspects. Gandhi also decided to launch a satyagraha against the Rowlatt act. The act caused a wave of anger among people. Gandhiji was on hunger strike, fasting, and praying.
