Mahatma Gandhi organised the Satyagraha movement in Ahmedabad amongst cotton mill workers in 1918.
After successfully organising and supporting the Satyagraha movement in Champaran district in Bihar in 1916 and the subsequent year in Kheda district in Gujarat in 1917, Mahatma Gandhi visited Ahmedabad. In Ahmedabad, Gandhiji saw the miserable condition of the cotton mill workers and decided to organise and inspire a satyagraha movement there. Also known as the Ahmedabad Mill Strike of 1918, the Satyagraha movement in Ahmedabad is one of the most crucial movements of the Indian independence movement. It was a dispute between the cotton mill owners and workers who the mill owners oppressed.
