Detailed Solution

Nadir Shah invaded Delhi in March 1739
In March 1739, Nadir Shah seized control of Delhi. Shah could resume fighting against his arch-neighbour, the Ottoman Empire of Persia. Still, he had to abandon his wars in the North Caucasus and Asia because he defeated the frail and collapsing Mughal Empire in the far East. Nadir Shah was at Peshawar when he learned of the raid from Nasir Khan, the Mughal governor of Afghanistan. Unlike Nader's skilled men, he quickly assembled 20,000 trained tribal levies. Taking the Mughal army by surprise at the Khyber Pass, Nader rapidly traversed the path. Nader took Peshawar without opposition three days after the battle began. The marching started again on December 12. Nader's army defeated the Mughals at the Battle of Karnal on February 24, 1739.
